As most of the people knows that in 2006 about 26% of the PTCL shares have been sold to Etisalat, a UAE-based telecommunications services provider & the 13th largest mobile network operator in the world. Government of Pakistan holds 62% of the shares while the remaining 12% are held by the general public. note that Ufone the second largest cellular provider is wholly owned by Etisalat.

Etisalat payment dispute with ptcl & the government of Pakistan came into the scenario on 29th December when etisalat refused to pay the four installments to the government of Pakistan over its 26% shares. more news about this has yet to come. note that PTCL’s privatization was done by Musharraf government to promote telecom industry in Pakistan & the privitization deal will be effected for seven years. PTCL performance is surely mobilized & the quality of their services is improved after the privatization. but one the other hand it is the failure of government for not taking solid steps to safeguard themselves in the issue of payments.
